Overcast

I moved into my new apartment in December 2020. I lived in a small place from which I could appreciate the daily life of the neighbors across the street. Mystery, drama, comedy, it was an enjoyable experience. Families moved in and out, and just like that, it was my turn to leave. The new place is equally as small but has two balconies and an unobstructed view from the fifth and sixth floor. For the first time in years, I could see the sky, the sun on its daily trajectory and the clouds, revealing thousands of patterns and colors. Every night, sunsets replaced the brick building theatre of life, and I became obsessed with something as simple as the sky.

I then started to take pictures of the sky from the balcony with my Hasselblad 500C/M. I developed the habit of writing the date and time down and what the picture meant to me.
This is when the Overcast project took shape: I would carry on for the full year and work on the photo series you have here today.

A pandemic sure is no fun. This project helped me go through hard times, and better ones. It also helped me travel from my balcony, and appreciate what I have. The sky is always there, no matter what. Taking time to stop and acknowledge its overly common beauty is a necessity. We all have people, family or friends we love; or even simple things we cherish. I am trying to appreciate that. It is a great time to be alive and this is what Overcast is about.
